We've made our wax blocks 50% smaller

And we're here to talk about why it was a decision for you, the customer. But first what is a wax block?

We offer two types of wax melts for all of our new collections: snap bars and blocks. Our snap bars are designed similar to a chocolate bar so on the back, you'll see they should be snapped into five segments. This means you can get five uses out of each snap bar, which is fantastic if you've found a scent that you absolutely love. They're also a great way to see a bigger version of the design, although we do recommend snapping them in the bags they are shipped in, so that any smaller pieces remain contained and can be poured into your burner later on. All of our snap bars have solid bases with mica powder in to get the sparkle as they melt and then the toppers are stuck on with additional wax to create the design. Due to the nature of them being snapped into five segments, it's likely that you will end up with five slightly different wax pools as each segment melts. If you're someone who likes to watch them melt, this makes the whole experience that little bit more exciting.

Each segment can be melted for around 12 hours in total, meaning that your snap bar has 60 hours of burn time in it. Although, if you're using a candle burner rather than an electric one, we don't recommend using them for more than four hours at once to avoid the burner getting too hot, so split your 12 hours per segment into three! Snap bars are approximately 60g each and at events and any retail locations we're renting, we charge $5 a snap bar. The prices vary a little online because of currency conversions and all that fun stuff.

Building a wax block is pretty similar to a snap bar, but if you've been a follower of ours for a while, you might notice that they look a lot more like our wax melt shapes. Our blocks are essentially our shapes but with a base. Our blocks have been 44-55g of wax and because of this, they didn't really differ in price compared to snap bars. We also would recommend cutting the blocks into smaller pieces for better value for money and to avoid overfilling your burner.

They were basically just too big

When you compare our 50g blocks to a 60g snap bar, it makes far more sense to buy a snap bar that is designed to easily break into pieces. Plus, the snap bars generally just look and feel like a lot more wax than the blocks do. So naturally, people were gravitating towards the snap bars and not the blocks. I completely understand why, I know I'd choose a snap bar for practical reasons.

For some people, an entire snap bar is too much of a commitment because you're essentially buying five of the same scent in one and there's no choice for less. When I was in the UK, the shapes offered a smaller, lower price, less risky option for people, especially when shopping online and they were by far our most popular wax product. I don't want to bring shapes back to the UK, but I knew a needed a middle ground between shapes and snap bars. So, the new and hopefully improved block was created.

They are half the size

This means they're perfect for melting all at once, but if you'd prefer to break them, you should be able to snap them with your hand. This means, nothing sharp is needed to get more use out of your wax melt, making our wax melts safer for you. They were really tricky to fit into the bags that I was originally using for wax melts because of the size, and I didn't love the idea of buying a second size bag, so I would just struggle to squeeze them in. Hopefully, by changing the size, the customers' experience will be better.

The prices are lower because you're getting less wax

This feels like a "duh" moment and it probably is. Previously, they weren't that much cheaper than our snap bars. Partially because of this, I didn't ever bother to bring them to markets. It didn't feel worthwhile to bring two very similarly priced items that would take up additional space. For markets this year, I will be bringing both snap bars and blocks. In person, our blocks will be $2.50.

All in all, this feels like a bridge between what was and what is. Generally, at markets people didn't seem to know what wax melts are but were curious and interested to try them out. I'm hopeful that this change will encourage people to buy our wax melts, especially in person and generally make them less intimidating to people.
