A quick and easy crochet pattern to make an American Football keyring

I've never been big on any sport and prior to meeting my husband, I don't think I had ever seen an American football game. Now that I'm living in the US, American football is a big part of every sunday during autumn and winter. I tend to just exist while it is on TV, it's a great time for me to get on with crochet and I've been making various football themed foods each sunday to get in the spirit.

A crochet keyring seemed like a fun way to embrace football season and I thought it could be cool to change the stitching colours to match someone's favourite team if they wanted.

This pattern is crocheted in continuous rounds using chenille yarn and a 4mm crochet hook. The white stitching is added after the main ball is complete and when finished, the keyring is approximately 3 inches from left to right. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete once you've got into the swing of making a few.

Let's make ourselves a football keyring! Or maybe 5?

Start in brown

1: 4sc in a magic ring in brown [4]

2: Inc x4 [8] change to white

3: (Sc, inc) x4 [12] change to brown

4: (Sc, inc) x6 [18]

5-7: Sc round for 3 rounds [18]

8: (Sc, dec) x6 [12] change to white

9: (Sc, dec) x4 [8] start to stuff

10: Dec x4 [4]

11: Dec x2 [2]

Fasten off, finishing stuffing, sew the end up

Using white acrylic or cotton yarn, sew a straight line across the middle of the ball between rows 3 and 9. Sew three straight lines across this line

I attach the keychain on the top so that the acrylic detailing can be seen facing forwards when the keyring is upright, but it's down to personal preference where you attach the keyring.
